Challenge: Community members in Deer River, Minnesota sought an idea creation workshop to assist in planning for their downtown area.
Northspan’s Role: Conducted background research on zoning and land use in Deer River’s downtown and facilitated a 3.5-hour workshop with community members from diverse backgrounds to explore changes the group hoped to see in the area in a five-year timeframe.
Results: The workshop identified a vision for the Deer River CARES (Community Action Revitalization Economic Strength) initiative that included the redevelopment of two notable properties and four additional goals to guide a downtown plan.
